Initial Consultation
If you’re interested in learning more about working with me, I would love to connect with you for a brief 15-minute phone or videocall prior to scheduling an initial appointment. During this call we can discuss your goals and what you’re looking for from working with a psychologist. I can also provide additional information about my approach and availability. To inquire about a free 15-minute consultation, either email me or give me a call at (801)432-0832. Following the initial consultation we can schedule your first appointment.
First Appointment
During our initial session, I’ll meet with you (and your parents/teen) to hear more about your goals for therapy, history, lifestyle, interests, and preferences. At the end of the first appointment and/or at subsequent sessions, we’ll all work together to agree on therapy goals and develop a plan to meet them.
Regular In-Person or Virtual Therapy for Teens
My approach to working with teens involves creativity and I often use metaphors that are relevant to their interests and activities to introduce therapy concepts. I also collaborate with caregivers to support teens in therapy. Depending on the your teen’s therapy goals, I check-in with caregivers frequently - typically at the beginning and end of therapy sessions. I’ll gather information from you and your teen about progress and continuing concerns. Our check-ins at the end of session typically include a review of new treatment concepts, goals for the upcoming week, and methods of caregiver support in achieving these goals.
I work with teens with a variety of presenting concerns including disordered eating, obsessive-compulsive disorder, depression and anxiety. I also have an interest in working with young athletes and can help with dealing with injury, overcoming performance anxiety, coping with athletic-related pressures, and managing high expectations and perfectionism. You can learn more about how I help clients with these concerns on my approach page
Regular In-Person or Virtual Therapy for Adults
We’ll start regular therapy after our first appointment. My approach involves helping you discover strategies for managing challenges in your life and increasing the extent to which you live in alignment with what matters to you. We will work together to determine how to make changes in your life, outside of our regular appointments.
I can help you manage a variety of different challenges and have specific expertise working with eating disorders, problematic exercise, obsessive-compulsive disorder, perfectionism, depression, and anxiety. I also have expertise working with athletes and can help with transitioning out of sport, dealing with injury, overcoming performance anxiety, coping with athletic-related pressures, and managing high expectations and perfectionism. You can learn more about how I help clients with these concerns on my approach page.
